Reg Tero remembers, "We had fun playing in the 'Orchard'. This
was a recreation space in Bath Street
with swings, slides, Maypole etc. and below this was the Borough Yard."
Josephine Kent, "There used to be an man called Mr. Stroud who sat in a hut at
the top of the Orchard, and used
to tell stories. We used to sit round there and listen to him. He lived in
Silver Street. Don't matter how many children
there was, he kept control and made sure nobody was bullied."
Max Allen remembers, "All I can remember of Bath Street was the premises of
Harry Ponting, a dairyman. I remember
the fresh-complexioned, grey-haired, elderly lady - hair very untidy, whisping
over one side of her face - sitting between what
appeared to be huge barn doors and serving milk to anyone who happened to call."
