UPDATE Jan 2010
Thanks to David Cochran who has found an entry for this building in an old trade directory.
"I found a Bear Hotel listed at 68, High Street, Daventry, being run by a Mrs Payne.
I checked on further and found that during the First World War it must have changed hands,
as a Mr Benjamin and Mrs.Emily Elizabeth Elliman owned the hotel.
There was a reference to this family in the Daventry Role of Honour sight which showed that a son, Percy James, had died in 1919, and was buried in Belgium.
I trust this information, if you have not been told it, will be of interest to you. I am pretty sure it is correct as the building next to the Bear Hotel is numbered 70."
