John Short remembers, "A friend of mine lived on Bristol
Street. They used to sell vegetables and toffee
apples for a ha'penny each. From the front room. Wasn't furnished, see? And I've
been down into their cellar.
Each side of it was stacked up with old iron; chains, nuts and bolts. Anything
metal - it was in the cellar."
