To the accession of extra trade which the war has already brought to Northampton, is to be added the
Germans seamen’s concentration camp, where two thousand sailors of German and Austrian nationality will be
interned next week, and the number may be considerably increased. The camp is to be pitched in the secluded
hamlet of Eastcote near Rothersthorpe, and orders to Northampton tradesman for supplies have already been placed.
Many of these alien sailors have been serving on British ships, but cannot be employed because of the war. Already
about 60 are detained at Eastcote and although nominally prisoners of war and guarded by police with side arms,
they are being treated with consideration under the charge of the Seamen’s Union.
