OTHER INFORMATION

The index is split into alphabetical files using Adobe Acrobat 6.0.  The file extensions are PDF format.

(The files can be opened with older versions of Adobe, 4.0 and 5.0)

The software that is required to open these is available as a free download from http://www.adobe.com

The files on this disk are an index to the parish registers and not full transcriptions of the parish register entries themselves.

If an entry contains additional information then this has been recorded.  This can include marriages that have taken place in another parish.

All parish register entries between 1700-1812 have been checked against all surviving Bishops Transcripts.

Any additional entries from the Bishops Transcripts that do not appear in the parish register have been recorded.  Any additional information to the

parish register entry has also been recorded.  Where there is a significant discrepancy between the parish register and transcript this has

also been noted.

Witnesses to marriages have not been indexed.

Civil Registration started on July 1st 1837, a new marriage register coincided with this date, all entries from this date until the end of the year have also

been recorded.  A percentage of these registers have not been deposited at the records office, where these have not been available Bishops Transcript

and Banns registers have been used to fill in the gap.

Legible marriage entries crossed out of the register have also been recorded.

Some abbreviations have been used in the creation of this index, OTP is an abbreviation for ‘Of This Parish’, PR is ‘Parish Register’, BT is ‘Bishops Transcript’,

the Chapman codes have been used for some of the county places, i.e. BKM = Buckinghamshire.

The parish registers for Kettering, Finedon and Lutton are not deposited at the NRO.  All BT entries have been recorded for these parishes.

When checking the registers for pre-1752 entries please check either side of the year recorded as some entries have been inputted using the old style.
