INTRODUCTION
This index has been created from entries in the marriage parish registers. We have also included some entries from the Bishops Transcripts and banns registers.
Over 90% of parishes within the modern day county boundary of Northamptonshire are included with the addition of Little Bowden which is now in Leicestershire.
The Soke of Peterborough and Stamford Baron have also been included. There are over 32,500 entries on the index.
The index has been arranged alphabetically and there are three sets of files, one under groom, one under bride and one by parish.
All entries between 1837-1860 (inclusive) have been recorded.
The index has been arranged in the following order :-
1. Forename of Groom.
2. Surname of Groom.
3. Groom’s place of residence when marriage took place. [otp is an abbreviation for ‘of this parish’], groom’s age, groom’s occupation, groom’s father and groom’s fathers occupation.*
4. Forename of Bride.
5. Surname of Bride.
6. Bride’s place of residence when marriage took place, bride’s age, bride’s occupation, bride’s father’s name and bride’s fathers occupation.*
7. Year marriage took place.
8. Date marriage took place.
9. Place marriage took place (or place marriage recorded in).
10. Notes column. This has been used to record additional information found within the entry or to explain something.
* This additional information [after July 1st] has been recorded whenever possible, some parish registers do not contain all of this data, banns registers have been used where access to the parish register hasn’t been achievable.

OTHER INFORMATION
The index is split into alphabetical files using Adobe Acrobat 6.0. The file extensions are PDF format. The software that is required to open these is available as a free download from http://www.adobe.com
The files on this disk are an index to the parish registers and not full transcriptions of the parish register entries themselves.
If an entry contains additional information then this has been recorded.
Witnesses to marriages have not been indexed.
Groom and bride files are normally sorted alphabetically by surname then forename, some forename entries may be listed at the end of the surname they belong to so please check the whole surname listing.
