WORLD WAR ONE NORTHAMPTON INDEPENDENT SOLDIER NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

PTE J. ALDRIDGE of the 1st Northamptons, Feb 1915

The grim reality of war is brought home to us in a very forcible manner by Pte. Aldridge, who is at present in the

                            Royal Hospital at Salford.

“Having read your in your paper the account of How Pte. Coles lay for 12 hours wounded, I think I can beat that easy.

On Oct 22nd we were ordered to attack the Germans, and we were not long before we were well at them.  I was hit in the

right leg by a piece of shrapnel, causing a compound fracture, it having blown part of my shin bone away.  I was pulled

into a ditch, and as my company had the order to retire I was left from Thursday, Oct. 22nd, until Sunday morning, when

I was carried out of danger by a captain of the Queen’s Regiment.  Luckily for me I had some water in my bottle, or I don’t

think I should have been here now as I could not move an inch.  I am pleased to say that my condition is improving now.”
