WORLD WAR ONE NORTHAMPTON INDEPENDENT SOLDIER NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

PTE. C. TEAR of the 2nd Royal Scots, May, 1915

Pte C. Tear of the 2nd Royal Scots volunteered to carry important despatches under heavy fire.

“I am sending you one of the messages I took under the fire of German machine guns and rifles.

No one else would take it, so I volunteered.  We were doing a bayonet charge at the same time, and

I crept behind dead bodies and made a dash for it, and got the messages through quite safe.  Our

shells were dropping short.  I was lucky to escape death, but it’s all in the game.”
