THE WAR AND AGRICULTURE - Jan 23, 1915
The dearth of labour on the land has been one of the trials of farmers for some time past, but since
the war the recruiting in the country districts has made the situation seriously acute. Labour for
agricultural work is so scarce that the labour exchanges of Kettering and Northampton had only man
on their books recently and he was promptly snapped up. The farmer is at his wit's end to know what
to do, and at the Northamptonshire Farmers' Union on Saturday, the question of employing those Belgian
refugees who happen to be agricultural labours was discussed.
